Child-Nestled
This is a place shaped around how children are held.
At Muddy River, care is relational, rhythmic, and grounded in shared life. Children are nested into a small outdoor community where safety comes from presence, pace, and connection.
We are not a therapeutic placement, and we are not a large group program.
We are a small, land-based community held by relationship.
How care is held here
Children are supported through:
-listening before directing
-Co-regulation before correction
-Collaboration instead of compliance
-Autonomy held within relationship
-Shared tending of space and belonging
Care here is not something done to children.
It is something lived with them.
Community Rhythm
Children who thrive here are able to:
-move within a shared outdoor group
-engage in relational care
-participate in the life of the community
-follow open-ended rhythms of the day
-receive support woven into the group
We welcome collaboration with therapists and support professionals. In some cases, families may choose to provide one-on-one support person. When appropriate and mutually agreed upon, that person becomes a part of the child's care circle allowing the group to remain balanced and supported.
The Shape of Our Care
Muddy River is not designed to provide continuous one-on-one support from program staff. Our care is held in community. Gently, honestly, and within the capacity of the group as a whole.
This is about the right placement, nervous system safety, and honest care.
