Autumn Rain
Sunday in my ASL class we were talking about seasons, celebrations, and holidays. There is about 10 people in my class from all over the world (but most are in the US), and when our instructor asked everyone their favorite season, one of the students from Germany signed Winter.
I immediately thought, why in the world would Winter be your favorite? 😂
Then he signed that he loves having an excuse to stay inside and be cozy.
Not us! When I took the kids outside today, I kept thinking that if it never got any colder than this, I would be perfectly happy. We spent nearly four hours outside in the drizzly rain and never once reached that point where everyone was cold and miserable and ready to go in.

We jumped in puddles.

We walked in the rain.

We got muddy.
And it felt like such a gift.
Our Summer was so dry that there were hardly any puddles at all. Puddle jumping is practically part of our culture here, and it genuinely made me a little sad that we barely even needed our rain gear all Summer.
So this Autumn rain? We’ll take every bit of it.
Watching children run toward a puddle in bright yellow rain suits instead of away from it that makes me want this season to stretch out just a little longer.
Before that snow comes. 🫣🤎
